The scholarship will support one student studying musical theater at Marva Hicks’ alma mater, Howard University. Every year for the four years of training, a student, who reveals exceptional talent in the musical theater field, academic excellence and financial need, will receive this coveted merit scholarship of $10,000.00 in memory of the career and artistic legacy of Marva Hicks.
Marva Hicks was more than a celebrated performer—she was a fierce advocate for Black artistry and education. This scholarship ensures that her legacy lives on by opening doors for emerging Black talent at one of the most prestigious HBCUs in the country. It is both a tribute and a promise: to uplift the next generation of Black musical theatre artists with real, sustained support.
