Established in memory of performer Marva Hicks, this scholarship supports the next generation of musical theatre artists through two components. Each year, one Howard University student pursuing a degree in musical theatre at Marva’s alma mater, receives a scholarship annually over their four years of study. In addition, two Howard University students apply for a full scholarship to attend the internationally acclaimed New Studio on Broadway Musical Theatre Summer Intensive at New York University.
Marva Hicks was more than a celebrated performer—she was a fierce advocate for Black artistry and education. This scholarship ensures that her legacy lives on by opening doors for emerging Black talent at one of the most prestigious HBCUs in the country. It is both a tribute and a promise: to uplift the next generation of Black musical theatre artists with real, sustained support.
