overview

The New Deal for Broadway was an important first step to reopening our industry in 2021 with a bright spotlight focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging for Black professionals in the arts. After working diligently with our partners and collaborators we were able to finalize the New Deal commitments with over 100 signatories. The continued implementation and impact of the New Deal is overseen by BTU, Dr. Nicole Johnson of the Harriet Tubman Effect, and a committee of New Deal signatories. A summit is held every year for signatories to connect across professions and discuss progress made over the year.

why it
matters

The New Deal is more than a pledge; it’s an active, evolving framework that now includes over 100 signatories. Each year, BTU brings these signatories together to assess progress and keep equity at the forefront.

what it
supports

  • Annual Summit for signatories
  • Ongoing accountability and oversight in partnership with NYU's Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging
